ISLAMABAD: A tragic incident occurred near the coast of Harawa, close to the eastern Libyan city of Sirte, where a boat carrying foreign nationals capsized.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, several migrants lost their lives in the incident, which took place along the coastal region of Sirte.
A team from the Pakistani mission based in Tripoli visited the city of Sirte and confirmed that the bodies of 11 individuals were recovered. Among them, four Pakistani citizens were identified through their documents, while the identities of two other bodies are yet to be confirmed.
The identified Pakistani nationals are:
1. Zahid Mehmood, son of Liaqat Ali, resident of Gujranwala
2. Sameer Ali, son of Raja Abdul Qadeer, resident of Mandi Bahauddin
3. Syed Ali Hussain, son of Shafqat-ul-Hussain, resident of Mandi Bahauddin
4. Asif Ali, son of Nazar Muhammad, resident of Mandi Bahauddin
The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that the Pakistani Embassy in Tripoli is in contact with local authorities to gather more details about the incident.
