India is witnessing violent protests after the passage of the controversial Anti-Muslim Waqf Bill. Tensions are high in West Bengal, where widespread demonstrations have erupted in response to the legislation.
In Murshidabad, clashes have escalated, resulting in three deaths and over 150 arrests. Authorities have suspended internet services to quell the unrest and are expecting more arrests.
Critics accuse the BJP government of using oppressive tactics to silence opposition, with allegations that the ruling party is intentionally targeting Muslims through repressive measures.
BJP MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato has controversially urged home Minister Amit Shah to impose the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in the region, sparking widespread concern.
Armed Forces Special Powers Act often referred to as a Black Law, grants the Indian Armed Forces Sweeping Powers, including the ability to use Force, conduct Warrantless searches, make Arrests on Suspicion, and open fire with near-total impunity.
Observers fear that the BJP is leveraging AFSPA to oppress Muslims, suppressing their voices through state violence and denying them the right to protest.
