Moselle Open Tennis: Fognini Fights Back To Beat Bublik In Metz
Fifth seed, Alexander Bublik, suffered a second round exit at the Moselle Open Tennis Tournament in Metz at the hands of wild card Fabio Fognini.
The 36-year-old Italian Veteran, who currently sits at number 147 in the ATP rankings, fought back from a set down to edge past the Kazakh world number 32 in two tiebreaks and secure a 4-6, 7-6 and 7-6 victory with Bublik dropping three match points in the second set.
Awaiting Fognini in the quarter-finals is his Italian compatriot Lorenzo Sonego after the sixth seed defeated Jordan's Abedallah Shelbayh 6-3 and 7-5.
Elsewhere 19-year-old Luca Van Assche joined Ugo Humbert, Harold Mayot and Pierre-Hugues to become the fourth Frenchman in the last eight as his second round opponent, eighth seed Stan Wawrinka, was forced to retire at the end of the second set with the score at 3-6 and 7-6.
