76th UNGA Session Opens : Maldivi's Abdullah Shahid Elected As President

The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened at U.N. Headquarters in New York.

Maldivian Diplomat Abdulla Shahid who was elected as President of the 76th UNGA in June, took oath of office during the ceremony and received the gravel from Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th UNGA.

U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres warmly congratulated Shahid of the Maldives on his election.

Guterres said, on the challenges and divisions that the world is facing, we must accelerate.

He said, we need to speed up our response to covid-19, with vaccines, treatment and equipment for all not only those with the most.
