Turkey To Continue Syria Operation If US Does Not Keep Promises: President Erdogan

Turkey says it will continue its offensive into northeast Syria more rapidly than before if the agreement with United States, to pause the operation and allow withdrawal of Kurdish forces, is not fully implemented.

Talking to journalists in Istanbul, President Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara has no intention to stay in areas under its control in northern Syria.

Erdogan said he has informed US President Donald Trump about the offensive in a phone call a day before launching it.

Meanwhile, United States said implementing a ceasefire will take time at Syria-Turkey border.

In an interview to fox news, White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said shelling and smoke were observed at the Syria-Turkey border one day after top US officials announced a truce.

When asked about the fighting in the region despite the pause agreement, Stephanie said US delegation was successful in a ceasefire but that takes time.
