Ashes 2019: Australia Declared 1st Innings At 497/8 Against England
Australian Steve Smith marked his return to international cricket with a double century on the second day of the fourth ashes test against England at Old Trafford.
Australia declared their first innings at 497 for eight.
The world's top-ranked test batsman Steve Smith went to his third double hundred at this level, and third against England, in 310 balls including 24 fours and two sixes.
This was the third time in four test innings he had reached three figures following scores of 144 and 142 in the first test at Edgbaston and 92 at Lord's.
Smith made 211 runs while Marnus Lambuschane scored 67 runs.
Skipper Tim Paine and Mitchell Starc also hit half centuries for Australia.
For England, Stuart Broad bagged three while jack leach and Craig Overton took two wickets each.
