Trade War With China Will Be Fairly Short: US President
US President Donald Trump said he believes China wants to make a trade deal and the trade war with Beijing will be fairly short.
The US President said that he's having good discussions with China. Trump said he had a call scheduled soon with Chinese President Xi Jinping, but he did not say when.
China has vowed to counter the latest US tariffs on 300 billion US dollars of Chinese goods but called on the United States to meet it halfway on a potential trade deal.
Trump said he did not think Beijing would retaliate for the US tariffs.
US and Chinese trade negotiators are set to meet next month in Washington, though a specific date has not been announced.
Trump added he would not want to see China violently suppressing protesters in Hong Kong and that President Xi Jinping could resolve the situation quickly if he met personally with protest leaders.
