Olympics Rio Torch Protest.
A series of demonstrations against the Rio 2016 olympics forced the torch relay to change route, delaying the procession by an hour on the eve of the flame's arrival in Rio de Janeiro.
This leg of the relay through the city of Niteroi, overlooking Rio de Janeiro from the other side of Guanabara Bay, started one Kilometre from where it was originally planned due to security issues.
Masked protesters clashed with riot police who fired used tear gas and arrested at least two people, the Folha De Sao Paulo newspaper reported.
The newspaper estimated some 200 people were involved in the protest, including students and teachers, some holding union flags.
Protesters said they were against public spending on the Olympics, whilst salaries for teachers and other public workers have been delayed.
The Olympic torch arrives in Rio de Janeiro, where it will be carried by Rio mayor eduardo Paes and taken on new public transport built as part of the legacy of the games.
