SC Appoints 7-member Search Committee To Find Competent Chairman
The Supreme Court has constituted a 7-member committee to find a suitable candidate to be appointed as chairman Pakistan electronic media regulatory authority.
A three member bench headed by chief justice Mian Saqib Nisar was hearing the media commission case including a petition by Hamid Mir to make PEMRA an independent regulator. Chairman Pakistan broadcasters association Mian Amir Mehmood has been appointed as head of the committee. Other member include senior politician sartaj aziz, owner of dawn group Hameed Haroon and others. The bench replaced state minister for information with secretary information in the committee.
The court also directed the committee to make proposals for making PEMRA more independent. Supreme Court directed the committee to complete its work in three weeks.
Owner of geo group Mir Shakil was directed to appear tomorrow in order to resolve the issue of unpaid salaries to media persons.
