Fed Cup Tennis Tournament

United States and Czech Republic qualify for the semi finals of Fed Cup Tennis Tournament.

Venus Williams put the United States into the world group semi-finals with a straight sets victory over Richel Hogenkamp of the Netherlands that gave the reigning champions an insurmountable 3-0 lead in their first-round tie.

Williams's 7-5 and 6-1 victory on the indoor hard court in Asheville, North Carolina, means the United States will travel to France, who beat Belgium earlier, for the April 21-22 semi-finals.

Czech number one Petra Kvitova put her nation into the fed cup semi-finals when she beat Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-2 and 6-4 to give the Czech Republic an unassailable 3-0 lead in their world group match played in Prague.

The world number 21 and two-time grand slam champion, playing her first Fed Cup match since being injured in a knife attack at her home in December 2016, had helped set the Czechs on their way with a 6-2, 1-6 and 6-3 win over Viktorija Golubic on Saturday, followed by Barbora Strycova beating Bencic 6-2 and 6-4.
