Australia Beat England By 120 Runs In 2nd Ashes Test

Australia beat England by 120 runs in the second day-night Ashes Test in Adelaide taking a 2-nil lead in the five match series.

Chasing 354, England resumed their innings on the overnight score of 176 for four, they were bowled out for 233.

Josh Hazlewood snuffed out England's outside hopes of a come-from-behind victory when he dismissed captain Joe Root in the third over of the final day of the first-ever day-night Ashes Test.

Starc mopped up the tail to finish with five for 88.

While root was batting England's hopes lingered of bringing off a record run chase of 354 but Hazlewood got his wicket.

Root left the field on his overnight score of 67 and with him England's hopes vanished. Jonny Bairstow made 36.

For Australia, Mitchell Starc bagged five while Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon took two wickets.

Shaun Marsh was declared man of the match.

The brief scores are: Australia 442 for 8 declared and 138, England 227 and 233.

Holders England now face the prospect of losing the series in next week's third test at Perth's WACA ground where they have not won a Test since 1978.
