Journalist Protection Bill To Be Presented Before Cabinet
Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb has said Journalist Welfare and Protection Bill-2017 will be presented before Federal Cabinet next week.
After Cabinet Approval, the Proposed bill will be tabled before the National Assembly and Senate.
She made the announcement as Senate Standing Committee on Information met under its Chairman Kamil Ali Agha.
Conforming to United Nations guidelines, Information Minister told the committee that proposed bill incorporates input from Journalist bodies and other Stakeholders.
As part of the bill, a Welfare Fund for Journalists, jointly-funded by Federal Government and Media Owners would be established.
Lauding Information Minister's efforts in preparation of the bill, the Standing Committee Members expressed satisfaction over the Comprehensive Legislative Proposal.
The Meeting also deliberated over Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (amendment) Bill 2017.
On the occasion, Minister for Information called on Private TV Channels to abide by PEMRA guidelines.
